What are the best strategies for playing blackjack and slots?

I’m going to Reno in a few days, and would like to give blackjack and slots a try.
I know a little about it, but am hardly an expert. What are some general tips about how I can immerse myself in the games without looking like a total amateur (and not losing my airfare home)?
Thanks for your answers.

Here is a full page with several articles on blackjack strategies, tips, tricks and advice on how to play.

It also has a link to a Blackjack Basic Strategy table, printable.
Be sure to read the part about the rule variations on tables, finding the best rule can make a big difference!
Be sure to get a players card while you are there, you may be able to get some good freebies, check the article on the page.
Good luck!
They say at Blackjack, alway assume the card they have facing down is a ten. So if they have a 3 showing and you have 15, I would stay in the hopes of the dealer busting out. If they have a 7 showing and you have 15, I would hit.
Firstly unless you are playing Poker you are going to lose in the long run/
But if you want to lose at a slower rate then search for basic stragergy

Unlike poker there is a correct move ( and only one correct move) in every situation.
All you have to do is bring along a chart which you can print off the internet ( and you can even sit at the table with a printout of the chart) and follow it.
